When it comes to buying jeans, I have a tendency to stick with what I know – skinnies or boyfriend jeans – but there is something about a pair of flares that I am drawn to. Flares seem to be one trend throwback that has stood the test of time and continues to be chic all these years later (unlike overalls or “mom jeans” which I just can’t get behind).
If I were to pin down what it is about a pair of flares that has me hooked, I think I would have to say it is the unexpected shape they give to an outfit, that little something different in the silhouette. I also like the way they easily take on a multitude of styling options depending on the items you choose – add a plain tee and some flats for a casual look or dress them up with a pussy bow blouse and some wedge heels for a night out.
Some New Zealand love with these Beau Coops Scand boots (which I see have recently come back into stock so get in now before they sell out). They are quite high for an ankle boot but the thickness of the heel keeps them from being a night-only option and I’m a big fan of the contrasting colour of the edging.
This post was written by my gorgeous (and oh-so-talented) friend Katie Custard who is my go-to-lady for all things makeup and beauty. This lady really knows her stuff and has been kind enough to share some of her expert knowledge with The Worlds Wardrobe.
I’m sure most of us find ourselves changing our outfits with things such as the seasons, the latest trends, our age… and well, any excuse to buy new clothes really… but a lot of the time it seems makeup gets put on the back burner and we keep reaching for what is the quickest, easiest and within our comfort zone.
Dare I remind everyone of perms, blue eye shadow, kitten heels and shell suits? EXACTLY. Change is good!
With this in mind I have put together an overview of some ‘makeup must-haves’ – oh and a warning, we might be here for a while, so go grab a snack..
I fell in love with these Louis Vuitton swinging half boots when scrolling through my Instagram feed. I’m normally a flat boot kind of gal but I think the heel is what I love the most with these beauties. I hold Leandra Medine from The Man Repeller responsible for fueling my love of expensive shoes (these boots were first featured on her Instagram account and it is because of her that these Valentino leather pumps are also on my list of “shoes I need”) but I understand that ultimately this has been a long time love affair that only grows stronger with each passing season.
Dressing for Marcia
We’ve just come off a weekend of storms here in Queensland – Cyclone Marcia was fluttering around – and the weather was miserable but delicious in that it forced us to stay indoors, put on some comfy clothing and watch movies all day.
My go to comfy clothing is usually made up of my lulu lemon tights and one of Dotty’s tshirts (why is a man’s tshirt so much more comfortable?!) but I tend to find that after a couple of hours/days (depending on my mood) that I start to feel a bit bleh in the comfortable but distinctly unstylish.
I have been seeing these Bassike Low Slung jeans a lot lately – on my instagram, pinterest and blogs. I love the boyfriend meets chic meets versatile style and have already imagined many many outfits with them in mind.
For my first outfit creation beyond my imagination, I wanted to go for a bit more of a dressy look. I can imagine wearing this outfit on a date night, for a 30th birthday/engagement party or for a night out with the girls. It could also be transitioned to a cooler climate really easily with the addition of a tailored blazer.
I got some new boots today and to say I’m in love would be an understatement. Mimco Samurai boots to be precise. They are black, with a snakeskin leather, studs and a pointy toe. And did I mention I love them?
And to add to the boots love story, they were over HALF PRICE in a summer sale.
So of course I had to create an outfit based around my new Mimco Samurai boots. Well actually two outfits – one for summer, as our current temps hover around 30 degrees; and one for winter because these really are winter boots. I was going to get deep into tights vs sunglasses type accessories with these looks but after I found the dresses, I decided the looks speak enough for themselves.
I know it’s been done before and will be done again, but putting together my 2014 Wardrobe Staples was a fun undertaking that spanned a few days and many many websites. You will see that these are not your average, everyday kind of staples because I decided to have a little fun with my pics. Each item could stand alone with some basics but could also work well with each other – the boots with the dress for example? Or the jeans and the blazer? Outfit heaven.
