Boy meets Girl – a tomboy outfit

Boy meets GirlI’m going through a bit of a tomboy phase a the moment – boyfriend jeans, baggy tees, kicks and sneakers. Comfortable and easy, which is sometimes so needed when getting dressed in the morning. But the look can be too much if you aren’t careful, and at the end of the day I still want to be recognisable as a laydee. So I like the idea of adding a touch of girlyness to the tomboy look, just to keep it balanced.

Be it through a pink lip or curls in my hair, the mixture of boy meets girl when it comes to my outfits adds a fun element to getting dressed. Continue Reading

Friday Work Wear (Part 2)

The final look in my Work Wear Week has a casual Friday feel but wouldn’t be out of place any other day of the week – depending where you work of course, and the accessories you chose to accompany said outfit. I first featured these Crepe Harem Pants by Kirrily Johnston in my Coveting series and am seriously considering parting with the $ to secure them as my own. I love the crepe fabric of the pants and of course the colour was instantly appealing to me. Also, they are the type of pant that would work all year round with different styling options: a leather jacket and a knit sweater in the winter and a plain tee and some sandals in the summer. (If it sounds like I’m talking myself into them, it’s because I totally am.)

To keep the outfit from being too casual, I have paired the pants with this River Island Black Longline Double Brested Waistcoat. I’m a sucker for anything double brested and the longline is so flattering, especially with the baggier pants. Peeking through the waistcoat, I have chosen this white T by Alexander Wang which on first glance looks like a plain white tee shirt but upon closer inspection, has a cute cut out back detail and sateen panels.

To wind down the week and finish off the look, I chose a classic pair of Chloe Contrast ballet flats in a blush pink with a twist in the heel detail and a little bit of height. While not a traditional colour match, the khaki of the pants and the pink in the flats seems to work together and keeps the overall look from being too dark. I have included this Nancy Gonzalez crocodile ipad case which will keep you looking chic, even between meetings.

Friday Work Wear (Part 2)

A casual but chic look to end this Work Wear Week and a great outfit to start the weekend – whether it is a low key dinner and a movie or swapping out the flats for some heels and heading out for a few drinks.

Thursday Work Wear (Part 2)

Today’s Work Wear look is inspired by a fashion shoot with Olivia Palermo wearing Tibi for Marie Claire Mexico. I am in love with everything about this photo – the styling is impeccable, the location is gorgeous in its simplicity and her hair and makeup wants me to immediately cut off my hair and get the curling tongs out.

Anyway, the peplum top immediately caught my eye and I thought it would be a great starting point for a work wear look. I think peplum is quietly moving away from being a “trend” item and is solidfying itself as a classic piece in any wardrobe and this Anson two-tone stretch twill top has an interesting contrast with the black and white and the peplum isn’t too much.

Every girl should own a pair of tailored black pants, and if they are made by Saint Laurent, then all the better. I’m a big fan of the heavy crease and the tuxedo strip on the outside of each leg (not seen here), giving an almost masculine finish which is then offset with the slim fit. Paired with the oh-so-girly peplum top for a flattering silhouette.

I was originally looking for more of a pump shoe but when I came across these 3.1 Phillip Lim Kadie Booties, I thought they added a little bit of style to this otherwise simple outfit, and they are just so damn cool. The black glossy leather, solid white heel and cut out detailing? It’s no wonder that these bad boys are now sold out.

Thursday Work Wear (Part 2)

As the week starts to wind to a close, this is an outfit that while chic for the office, could be seamlessly taken to night with a bright lip and a fancy clutch. After all, Thursdays are the new Friday.

Wednesday Work Wear (Part 2)

Today’s work wear look is based around this Lela Rose Printed dress. I call this a “Private Practice” dress as it reminds me of the type of dresses the ladies would wear in the tv show Private Practice and for me, is the ultimate in grown-up dressing. I love the colour combination of this fabric and the capped sleeves balance well with the shorter length. I can imagine cinching it with a patent black belt or adding some great arm candy in the form of a bold cuff, but for this look I wanted the dress and its bright pattern to be the focus.

As the dress is quite summery, I felt that a sandal would work best and found just what I was looking for with these Rebecca Minkoff Patricia sandals. I’m really loving a thick heel at the moment and the ankle strap and detailing on these shoes are a gorgeous compliment to the dress. And continuing with the theme that a bag is the perfect finish to any outfit, I spent quite a bit of time hunting my favourite websites before finding this suede and leather tote from Saint Laurent. I like how different fabrics and textures can add depth to an overall look and the practicality of this bag is hard to beat while still being stylish and chic.

A simple but stunning midweek work wear look. The weekend is in sight.

Tuesday Work Wear (Part 2)

I started today’s work wear look with this very chic Sass and Bide First Pitch Trent Style Coat which I came across in their recent Fall Updates email. I love getting fashion updates straight to my email but it can also lead to a lot of trouble, especially if I am in a “life is short, buy the shoes” kind of mood.

The coat comes in both black and white, and I think if I were to buy this item I would go for a more practical black but these posts are not supposed to practical, so white it is. Keeping in mind that the weather is hot & humid, I wanted to balance the long sleeves and overall heaviness of the coat with shorts or a skirt and found just what I was looking for with this Caslyn fine-jersey skort (!) by Theory Theyskens. Shorts and skirts can be risky in the office but these aren’t too short and the tailoring helps to keep them on the more formal side.

I am not normally a high heeled pump kind of gal but I can make an exception for Jimmy Choo with these Abel patent leather pumps. These are very officey shoes but the patent material adds some texture to the look, they compliment the skort and they keep the look office appropriate. (If I was to wear this skort on the weekend, I would be more likely to pair it with some wedges or cute flats)

And to finish off this second work wear post of the week (stay tuned this week as I post a new look each day!) I found this Jordi tote from Country Road, in gorgeous plum/burgundy which pairs well with the green of the shorts and would look great with an almost but not quite matching lipstick colour.

Looking chic at work is effortless with this oufit.
